Hein is the co-owner and principal of the Plettenberg Bay office.  Hein grew up in Plettenberg bay and his family has been connected to Plett since the 1950’s.  After spending 2 years abroad Hein entered the property market in 1996 and has spent years building a formidable track record in the industry.  He is responsible for a vast market share of the total value of transfers in Plettenberg Bay and surrounding areas, having sold over three billion Rands’ worth of real estate to date.  Hein has won the top Agent award in the Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International network (for highest factored turnover) on numerous occasions, but since 2021 held this status consecutively until 2025. This sterling track-record has led to Hein having a legendary status among co-workers and competitors alike.

Many of the most exclusive and expensive properties in the area have been sold by Hein, including a sale in 2024, on Robberg Beach, where a price of R156 million was achieved for vacant land. Hein has also been responsible for sales in several prestigious developments, and his office has won numerous national awards including Franchisee of the year. The Plett office holds the highest market share of any franchisee in the entire Lew Geffen Sotheby’s Realty group nationwide. Since its inception in 2005, this office has sold over 6 billion Rands’ worth of real estate to date and is considered the best Real Estate agency in Plettenberg Bay.

Steve Neufeld

Steve Neufeld

Steve is the manager and part-owner of the Sotheby’s Plett office. After graduating with a BA Honours in Psychology and Journalism from Rhodes University, Steve moved into the Real Estate sector in 2004, then choosing to further this career by completing the National Diploma in Real Estate (Property Valuation) in 2009, becoming a Professional Valuer registered with the SA Institute of Valuers and the SA Council for Property Valuers. Steve also holds an MPRE (Master Property Practitioner of Real Estate) and is one of the principals in the Sotheby’s Plett office. He runs South African Property Valuations (his own company) and is an appointed Court appraiser (previously known as a Sworn Appraiser). By virtue of this, Steve has the authority to provide official values for property, particularly for deceased estates, in the Garden Route. He is also a member of both the Knysna and Bitou Municipal Valuation Appeal Boards and Steve’s property reviews have been published in numerous national publications.  

Steve enjoys mountain biking, gaming, writing, and property photography. He’s lived and travelled in numerous countries in both hemispheres, but since 1981 Plett has been the place Steve calls home. Carrie Maclean

Carrie has been involved in real estate since 2001, specializing in residential property in the entire Plettenberg Bay and Keurbooms areas. Carrie joined the Sotheby’s Plettenberg Bay in 2008, having lived here since 1993. Her knowledge of the area and history of property sales is extensive.

Desre Reck

Desré is the on-site agent for the Thulana Hill Development, which is her speciality, as well as being a sectional title agent in the Plettenberg Bay area. Since its inception, Desré has had a vested interest in the development, eventually buying and living there while working closely with the developer. Desré is awaiting the launch of the second phase of the development any day now which will enjoy even better views with a fresh architectural design and quality finishes.  Since moving to Plett in 2009, Desré says she “eats, sleeps and breaths Thulana”. It has become part of her family and life.

Elbie studied law at Stellenbosch University and practised as an Environmental Lawyer for many years.  She has been living in Plett since 1981. With family who enjoyed holidays here since the 1930’s, and having lived here herself since 1981, Elbie is a passionate outdoors person, who has excellent knowledge of the coastal area from Knysna to Natures Valley and has walked this entire coastline many times.

Originally from Johannesburg, Janelle and her family moved to Plett in 2003 and she has been in Real Estate since 2008 (with Sotheby’s since 2012).  

 Although she does not devote all her time to sales, Janelle enjoys remaining active as an agent whilst focusing on being PA to Sotheby’s owner/principal, Hein Pretorius who is one of the highest achieving agents/owner-principals in the Sotheby’s group and the Plettenberg Bay area.

Jean was born and raised in Plettenberg Bay, coming from a family with deep roots in the real estate industry. After finishing high school, he went on to study a BCom degree in Business Management and Marketing Science at a business university in Stellenbosch. Upon completing his three-year degree, Jean started his career at Sotheby’s International Realty in Stellenbosch, where he gained valuable experience over the course of two years. Jean then decided to return to his hometown of Plettenberg Bay, where he continued his professional journey with Sotheby’s International Realty.

Karin Loretz

Karin, originally from Johannesburg, studied B. Comm Industrial Psychology at RAU. She was a Pharmaceutical Representative for 17 years. Her work took her to various parts of our beautiful country, before deciding to move Plett in 2021. Karin successfully completed her PDE exam at the end of 2022. She enjoys playing tennis and spending time with her 2 dogs. In her spare time, she often explores the Karoo as she is passionate about the area and its people.

Luke was born and raised in Plettenberg Bay and has deep-rooted connections to this beautiful coastal town. Paul was born in Plettenberg Bay and has lived here all his life except for his schooling and university years. He studied law but, after two years of articles, realized that his passion lay in Real Estate. Sue, along with her husband and children, relocated to Plettenberg Bay from KwaZulu-Natal in 2004.
