Beachy Head Drive, Plettenberg Bay, is one of the most expensive, upmarket areas in the whole of South Africa. It is similar to the Atlantic Seaboard (e.g. Clifton) in Cape Town. Houses on the front are generally mansions, although a few cottages still exist. It runs parallel to Robberg Beach, a five kilometer stretch of unspoiled white-sand beach. There is a blue flag status beach in the middle known as Robberg Five, a great swimming beach. Surfing is good at the corner of Robberg Nature Reserve at the Wreck; waves are good when white water is visible along the length of Robberg Peninsula. Whales and dolphins swim by so close it feels as if you can reach out and touch them. If you are lucky, you will even get to swim with dolphins swimming around you.
