Fires: Tax Consequences
As many of you know, a disastrous fire blustered through the beautiful Garden Route a few weeks ago.
It was devastating for all who witnessed homes being razed to the ground or tracts of land being overrun by fire, fueled by a ferocious wind. 
If your property was completely destroyed by the fire and you’ve been compensated by insurance, you will (almost certainly) have to deal with the implications of CGT as this payout constitutes “disposal” of the property and receipt of proceeds therefrom. 
CGT can be tricky and there are various implications that will need to be consideration by each person according to their individual circumstances.  There is no “one size fits all” answer as to how CGT affects property owners in this situation. 
Unless you are au fait with all the implications of CGT, we would strongly suggest that you consult a professional tax advisor or financial specialist to guide you through your various options.  Expert advice, in this instance,  will almost certainly be beneficial in the long-run.
